Finding an Astra VXR nowadays is easy enough. Finding one that hasn’t been heavily modified, mapped, messed with or simply driven into the ground is another story altogether.

They simply don’t come along like this very often.

This particular VXR has come from a mature owner who has clearly pampered it throughout its life. The Magma Red bodywork presents beautifully, the half-leather VXR interior has been exceptionally well preserved, and we’ve just had the iconic 19” Ronal alloys professionally powder coated, finishing the car off perfectly.

More importantly, it drives absolutely beautifully. There are no unwanted noises or warning lights, and when you put your foot down it still delivers that addictive punch that made the original Astra VXR such an iconic hot hatch.

It’s fast, raw and full of character — exactly how a proper hot hatch should feel.

You get all the touches that made these cars special, including the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, 6-speed manual gearbox, VXR sports suspension, VXR body styling, large rear spoiler, centre-exit exhaust, sports steering wheel, VXR instruments, half-leather sports seats and those unmistakable 19” alloys.

I had actually planned to keep this car myself, because finding another example with this provenance isn’t going to be easy. Unfortunately, other vehicles and a lack of storage space mean I’ve reluctantly decided to let her go.
